UPDATE: A GREAT article sent to me by a friend.
“You LIE!” The only true words spoken at last nights address to both houses of Congress. They were spoken by a Represenatative from South Carolina, Joe Wilson. THIS MAN NEEDS TO RUN FOR PRESIDENT. He was pointing out that Obama’s statement that illegals will not be covered is a lie. And it is. Just one of many………..The congressional research service has repeatedly confirmed this……….Obama just thinks if he keeps repeating it, without debate, that enough people will buy what he’s selling.
Last night was the most partisan display of in-your-face, Chicago-style politics we’ve yet seen from the office of the Presidency. Obama said NOTHING new, specified NOTHING about how the bills that he is STILL PUSHING will accomplish his pie-in-the-sky rhetoric.
He practically DEMANDED that Nancy Pelosi & Harry Reid shove their sociaized intrusion into healthcare thru the House IMMEDIATELY………..because he DEFINITELY didn’t demand changes to the EXACT bill folks are in an uprorar over that accomplish nothing that he laid out as “his plan.”
He did, however, take the “debate” one step further. He completely dismissed the August recess UPROAR, and the contentious townhall meetings where the people of this country VEHEMENTLY disagreed with his proposals. And instead called them names. Wow.
He can continue to repeat himself and he can continue to push this message. BUT THE PEOPLE OF AMERICA ARE ON TO HIM. At no point during his speech did he acknowledge that half of the people in this country disagree with him, and no longer trust him. At no point during his speech did he say “Yo, Nanc, scrap the crap and start again!” At no point during his speech did he say, “If you read Page [x], Section [y], you will CLEARLY see that this bill will do [ABC].” Why?? BECAUSE NOTHING IN THE CURRENT BILLS SUPPORT HIS RHETORIC, BUT IN FACT DISPUTE IT.
And he’s not proposing to change a single line in any of these bills.
Instead we heard “the time for BICKERING is over.” “The time for game playing is OVER.” HUH?!?
Are you insinuating, Mr. President, that the American people are “BICKERING” AND “GAME PLAYING” by attending townhall meetings and rallying and shouting to the rooftops THAT THIS PLAN SUCKS?!
Were we bickering when we took time out of our lunch hours to hit the nearest drugstore to buy poster board and paints? Were we game playing when we traversed our way thru Home Depot looking for a piece of lathe to tie our board to? Were we bickering when we took time away from our families and our jobs to attend townhall meetings and rallies to express our opinions about the grandiose plan that you are proposing that will insert the federal government into every nook & cranny of our lives without our consent????? Well, Mr. President??? Is THAT the bickering and game playing that you are referencing?
Obama talked about…
“…the perils of too little” government…
“…the leavening hand of wise [government] policy”…
“…carefully crafted…[government] efforts to help people in need.”
And here’s the kicker…
He expressed empathy with those who are having trouble believing that “government is looking out for them.” This is a VERY CLEAR INDICATOR that Obama truly believes that the federal government should run your life because you’re too stupid to make your own decisions. Do you AGREE with him???
Some positive things did get said, but unfortunately they are stark inconsistencies with the policies that he is actually pushing. Obama said, “Those irresponsible behaviors cost all of us money.” He was trying to stress that when others are irresponsible that it’s not fair that the rest of us have to pay for it. I immediately agreed with this concept.
When others act irresponsibly, be it by refusing to work, or having four children that they cannot afford, or buying a house that they cannot afford, or investing in something that they cannot afford, or refusing to buy insurance for themselves or their families, or running up high credit card debt, or choosing not to be responsible enough to pay their bills on time, ………..ANY of these irresponsible behaviors…………cost the rest of us responsible people money! And a LOT OF IT.
BUT THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO REASON WHY THE REST OF US SHOULD CONTINUE TO HAVE TO PAY FOR IT. Obama called for responsibility. How about we focus on that one statement, the one clear, honest thing that was said last night, and allow folks to make decisions for themselves, BOTH GOOD AND BAD, but instead of the current status quo, LET’S LET THOSE BAD DECISIONS AFFECT ONLY THOSE THAT MAKE THEM! Stop forcing responsible folks to contribute to high federal income taxes to bail folks out of their OWN BAD CHOICES!
The arrogance at Obama saying things like “THIS is what you need to know”, as if discouraging independent thought, and being directed to just do what we’re told. The arrogance of Obama saying “a fee on expensive insurance plans will keep costs down”, as if ANYONE believes that taxing folks willing to pay for the EXACT coverage that will avoid the pitfalls that he extols, will shrink the cost of an MRI. The arrogance of Obama saying that “the public option could support itself with premiums”, as if the American people don’t recognize that this IS THE DEFINITION OF INSURANCE that these folks are currently unable or unwilling to engage in. The arrogance of Obama saying that “insurance companies profits are too large & gov’t can run it more efficiently”, as if every person in this country doesn’t recognize that 53 NEW GOV’T OFFICES WILL DO NOTHING BUT COST ENDLESS HOURS & TONS OF CASH TO RUN, all the while creating a beauracracy that will be a nighmare to navigate thru, yet a waterslide of ease to DEFRAUD.
Last night was a dismall failure in my estimation. Obama didn’t give any new information, let alone any new specificity. He simply said that everything is Bush’s fault and we all need to shut up, sit down, and do what we’re told. Do you agree with that??
If not, I encourage you to reinforce your feelings with Washington. Call every single congressman that you have time to contact and let them know that this farce has gone too far and the American people aren’t going to take it! CALL TODAY!
