My facebook page got deleted last night. Which, I guess, given the current political environment isn’t that big of a deal……….except that I had posted SO many photos, and connected with SO many friends. It sucked. I had over 400 friends, which for a person who’s mouthy & SASSY, is kind of a lot.
Well, thanks goodness for me I’d joined the right groups of like minded CONSERVATIVES. So when I created a new profile I rejoined those groups, and **POOF**, I got almost 300 friends this morning! : )
I think they missed me.
I got a crap load of messages “What happened??? All your posts just disappeared from my wall!” “Where’d you go?? DID THEY GET YOU?!” “Hey! I can’t find you, it says you don’t exist? WHAT WILL I DO FOR NEWS?”
I felt pretty good. : ) So I set to work recreating my network of conservative sofa-sitting pundints on Facebook. Within 24 hours I had almost recreated the political network of yore. And it didn’t even include my MOM! I’ll work on my family and friends tomorrow. They’ll all laugh when they hear. They’re probably even been expecting it as a foregone conclusion.
The one thing that REALLY bothers me is that for all of the Liberals’ talk of “social justice” and “freedom of speech”……….they sure don’t ENFORCE IT MUCH. The founders of Facebook worked on Obama’s campaign. They actually were the driving force behind the Organizing For American (BarackObama.com) efforts that pundints say is actually the SINGLE LARGEST EFFORT that got that crazy-ass elected. They isolated a very large group of folks, limited the topics of discussion, deleted dissension and kept these young people CLUELESS about the real candidate that they were “supporting. ”
It was GENIUS.
Well, now one of those gentlemen actually works in the White House. He’s some sort of IT consultant of some sort. Who the hell knows. Anyway, I guess my point is that with conservatives getting deleted and dumped into the ether on a regular basis, while pages like I bet i can find 5,000,000 people who dislike George Bush and #### Bush and George Bush are COMPLETELY FINE. (And keep in mind that these are the TAME ones.) it’s pretty obvious that FACEBOOK DISCRIMINATES AGAINST POLITICAL SPEECH. ……..Oh! But only if it’s AGAINST OBAMA!
What probably started the firestorm was the fact that I was posting like CRAZY about the PelosiCare bill was passing in the House around midnight. I was irritated, to be sure, but also quite pragmatic. Nancy Pelosi is smug today, but that bill will never see the light of day. I’m not stupid. The Senate won’t pass anything even CLOSE to that horrible monstrosity. DUH. But still, it’s always a good idea not to waste a good crisis, right RAHM?!? So I figured I’d stir up the conservatives and make them realize that they need to stay diligent and KEEPING FIGHTING. TAKE ACTION!
I decided that I’d create an ANTI-FAN PAGE for Cao, R-LA, that was the SINGLE Republican that voted for PelosiCare. (Seriously?? If you’re a Democrat, don’t run as a Republican “just because.” Good grief!)
A friend of mine in the conservative underground of Facebook is a “fan” of SEIU’s page. FUNNY, EH?? Well, he said that they sent out a message for all their members to start hitting Cao’s sites, and Democrats’ sites that voted for PelosiCare, and start “reporting” any negative postings. NICE, RIGHT?!
Well, it worked. To some degree. I’m sure that there were some folks that were deleted that won’t know what to do. But that’s not me. : ) I’ve come back stronger, actually, because it was the PERFECT example to get folks joining my political action group http://www.RightlyConservative.com . This showed them that, yes, we can meet and talk and organize……….but we’re still dependent on an organization that doesn’t agree with our GOAL. And that’s a little scary. Especially in an environment like Facebook where you most likely are NOT getting actual contact info for the folks that you’re meeting.
So, there were a couple of lessons learned last night: 1) Facebook SUCKS, and they have ZERO tolerance for free speech that doesn’t align with Obama; 2) It’s REALLY easy to recreate your networks if you know what you’re doing (contact me at RightlyConservative.com, I’m the Admin, and I’ll give you some tips); 3) Folks tend to lash out at you when YOU’RE ACCOMPLISHING SOMETHING; 4) Howard, as usual, is right: I should be running the local John Birch Society meetings……..
I won’t ever lose my Facebook friends again. I’ve figured out how to keep an active list off-site of Facebook. But I’ve warned my friends that this probably won’t be the last time they’ll have to “friend” me. : ) They understand. And they love me anyway.
